Mokona Modoki : Soel & Larg

Changed the layout cuz now i'm on my Mokona obsession,especially Larg ( the black one )

Here's some interestin' info bout both Mokona ( from http://www.kimihiro.net/mokona/ )

Mokona Modoki is the name of two small creatures that appear in two CLAMP manga/anime series: XXXHOLiC and Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE. The white one is Soel, and it's the mascot in TRC. The black one is Larg, and it's one of several mascots in HOLiC. Mokona Modoki (or just Mokona, for short) refers to any or both characters; the previous names aren't used in the series. But I'll get to that later. Both of them are important characters and plot devices in both stories, sometimes even being the nexus between the their characters.

Do not confuse Mokona Modoki (especially white) with Mokona from Magic Knight Rayearth. Indeed, they look alike, and there's a reason for it I'll explain in the story section, but they're not alternative versions of it, like it happens with a lot of Tsubasa characters.

I mentioned before that their names are Soel and Larg. We know this fact from some short stories written by Ageha Ohkawa (CLAMP's writer and leader) about the genesis and backstory of said creatures. They appeared on their official website's album some time ago. You can't find them any longer there, but there's a storybook you can buy in Japan with a recompilation of Mokona's origins and how were they "raised" by Clow Read and Yuuko Ichihara. It's called Soel to Larg: Mokona=Modoki no Bouken. The stories are childish and/or cracktacular, but it's a good thing for precanon. You can only get it in Japanese.

Mokona Soel Modoki

White Mokona. The gemstone in its forehead is red, and so is the magical pendant in its right ear.It's the one that resembles MKR's Mokona the most.

Its personality is cheerful and optimistic. It loves to tease people and to climb to heads or shoulders. It says it has 108 secret techniques. We don't know if that's a bluff or not, but some of the so-called techniques are extremely silly (acting skills, voice-changing skills, et cetera.)

We see the best of this Mokona in the Tsubasa RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE series.

Mokona Larg Modoki

Black Mokona. The gemstone in its forehead is blue, and so is the sealing pendant in its left ear.

Its personality is less enthusiastic than its sibling's, but it's also a teaser. Also, it's quite a glutton.It doesn't seem to have as many powers as Soel, but it can do things the other one cannot, such as seeing ghosts. Considering Watanuki's around, that's rather convenient.

We see the best of this Mokona in the XXXHOLiC series.

It's sad enough that it's entitled "Farewell, Hyoutei Gakuen." I guess that means we're not going to see any more of them for the rest of the series? Or is that just in regard to the tournament.

Then you notice the note on the wrap-around ad cover (not in this scan). It says:

On the reverse side of the cover, in the place of the usual summary of the storyline in this volume bit, we get:

Finally this day has come!! The reaction of the fans has affected Konomi-sensei and even Shuueisha and had moved them to create the first reversible cover, in which monk-cut Atobe appears!! Will this move the fans who weren't able to see the Ice Emperor's new look in the manga to tears? Or will they be tears of shock?

His little blurb tells us that his injury is related to his lower back and he's unable to sit for any length of time. He thanks us for our support and tells us that he'll keep working at it. Also, that this is the first reversible cover that Jump has ever printed.

Then he apologizes to Atobe fans...



Atobe's weird haircut. OMGWTF ?!?!?! He looks like Tachibana with a dislocated mole. I can only express my shock through these icons...
